SOHL has received a statement from Kate Hammond, the Independent local election nominee for the East ward.  Kate is also Chairman of the SOHL Committee and as you know is strongly opposed to MBC’s Heathland Garden Community.

You can read her statement below:

“I have enjoyed speaking to some of you recently about your concerns for the local area. I wanted to write and encourage you to go out and make your vote count on 6th May as Maidstone enters a period of immense and irreversible change.

As your independent candidate, I come with no party political baggage – just socially liberal beliefs that put people first. I believe it is time for change. The Maidstone party politics from the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives is no longer fit for purpose. Between them they are too caught up in their own party politics or blaming someone else for the many issues here and across the borough. If elected, I will be the loudest voice in the Town Hall fighting for a better life and future for you, the East ward residents. Because, we need to fix the infrastructure issues and sort out traffic congestion in our town. We need to reduce air pollution and protect the environment, at the same time as providing affordable homes. We also need to promote local business and support our town centre. It’s time to stop the political blame game, stop neglecting residents’ concerns, and stop wasting council taxpayers’ money.”
